Djembre



This is a picture of Little Djembre. From the air the river looks like a snake has carved it out. This is part of Roper River and is fresh water but ends up running into salt water. So, you can find freshwater and salt-water crocodile here. We use the river to go swimming, fishing and camping. When fishing we like to catch turtle, barramundi and crocodile. When swimming and fishing you need to be aware of and careful to make sure that crocodiles or snakes don’t bite you.

Jilkminggan School Sign

Jilkminggan school is in the middle of the community and where all the children go to school. At the school Mr Des is our Principal and Miss Liz, Mr Bode, Miss Lauren, Miss Webster, Miss Telka, Miss Phillipa and Miss Josie are teachers. Miss Rachel, Serita, Sandra work in the kitchen to make our breakfast, smoko and lunch every day. I like coming to school so I can learn to read and write. This will help get me get a job when I am older. I think I want to be a shop owner.

The Mural

Talisha, Shianne and I recently painted this mural with the help of Wannir.

What makes community strong?

We keep Jilkminggan clean and look after the school.  We put the mess in the bin and keep the animals out of school. You must look after your family, your sisters and cousins because we look after each other. We like to play sport and play football on the oval and basketball at the basketball court with our friends. We stay healthy by washing your hands and staying clean.

The Hall



I am in the hall. We use it for basketball and football and disco and for sport. It is where we go to have fun and I love to go down to the hall. It is near Little Jembray and the football oval.

This is Jilkminggan store. It is in an old building that use to be a house. The lady that helps run the store is named Gale.

This is Werrg class with Miss Liz. The students in this picture are Katrina, Metallica, Sophienne, Shyanne and me, Tomisena. In this picture we are doing English work. The people in this class are 14 or older. My favourite thing in class is drawing.
